How I set up Dicom for Humphrey Matrix 800

Posted on December 3, 2022December 5, 2022 by admin

We like Humphrey FD Matrix 800 because it is small and fast to meet our needs of glaucoma screening in small office. But it’s printer set up is only limited (?) to HP printers with PCL 3, PCL 5 and postscript. We have to have HP printer dedicated to Matrix only but we like our brother network printer which serves our needs for long time. We have been paperless for some time with our EMR. Also it is built upon linux based OS, we could not set up Microsoft Remote Desktop to access Matrix to view the results.

I found Matrix 800 has built in Dicom out put as a report on at the end of each test. I used our EMR server as Dicom file storage / Dicom server. Dicom is fancy word for storing graphical (pdf,gif..) file to view as web pages. Pages has to be indexable so it can be searched. We used our EMR ( compulink advantage) ID as patient ID for Matrix patient ID field. This id serves as index field of Dicom file system.

Setting Matrix 800 for dicom out put as result exportation.

On Matrix 800 Dicom setting tab :

We decide to use open source Orthanc dicom server program as server in our office. Orthanc server software is installed on our computer called “Sever” on our intra network. Port number 4242 is Orthanc default number witch can be changed in Orthanc configuration file.

Export tab of Matrix to configure Dicom

Testing Dicom may not work unless dicom sever software is installed on computer called “//sever/*.*/

In this example Orthnc was installed on \\sever\c:\netdrive\dicom. Here folder netdrive is shared folder.

This is how it looks when orthanc sever is running successfully.

If everything is set correctly, on Matrix dicom setting tab, clicking “test” tab should result green light on dicom storage fields. red light on MWL provider fields should not affect what we would like to achieve here.
